To help your group and the teachers prepare for the tutor meetings, we would like you to answer a few questions in between sessions. The following paragraphs list the questions for each of the weeks, please write you answers directly underneath the questions.

After the kick-off - Week 1

  • What are you expecting to learn during the Robots course?
Wouter: The ability to implement the knowledge acquired in the previous two courses.
Nikki: I expect to learn about the possibilities to use the knowledge we gained in the earlier courses.
Dirk: Applying knowledge gained from earlier courses as well as working with an interdisciplinary team.
Mees van (D)ongen: I expect to learn a lot about the chosen subject. Next to this, doing a more real world situation in which Artificial Intelligence can be used will improve my understanding.
Mitchell (S)chijen: To be able to apply knowledge gained during previous courses (of this USE package and from other courses of my bachelor). Furthermore I expect to gain experience from working in a multidisciplinary team on a real world problem.
  • What kind of coaching do you expect?
W: More subtle guidance than actual coaching, in the sense that we will not be told where to go, but that we rather are stopped if we are going in completely the wrong direction.
N: I expect the coaches to ask questions and give hints that lead us to look more critically at our own work.
D: Critical questions about our work so far and our future plans.
MD: I expect the coaches to share their experiences and insights in artificial intelligence and the project as a whole.
MS: I expect that the coaches will use the meetings to get us to critically reflect on our work, and that we are encouraged to fix problems ourselves. I also expect that we will be warned should there be critical issues with our topic or if we set unreasonable goals for ourselves.
  • What kind of coaching would you prefer?
W: I am personally more fond of feedback regardless of the results. Not only saying when something is wrong but also when we are headed in a right direction. It gives a bit more peace of mind whilst working on a project.
N: I hope the coaches will guide us when we don't know which direction to go with our project, and that they will indicate if we are on the right track or not so we have the possibility to adapt our approach as needed to deliver a successful project.
D: I hope the coaches will us decide whether we are on the right track and should keep going or if we should head in a different direction.
MD: I prefer a guiding coach, who is critical.
MS: I would prefer it if we are informed about common missteps that can occur during these projects. It would also be nice to get feedback on the viability of our planning, as well as feedback regarding the quality of our work (are certain aspects of subpar quality?)
  • What will the coaches expect of you?
W: Well, considering my lack of actual expertise concerning robotics (apart from the two other use robotics courses), I think the best thing to realise is that I try and I mean well.
N: I think that the coaches expect us to look critically at both our own work and the work of our group members. I also think the coaches expect us to participate actively in the feedback sessions (i.e. asking questions rather than just awaiting feedback).
D: I think that they want us to make clear what we have done so far and what our future plans are.
MD: To engage, to keep promises, to do, to learn, to fail and try again. All with all, to do a project seriously.
MS: I expect that the coaches want us to take responsibility for the work we do, that we work thoroughly and set realistic goals, and that we actively contribute to the project. I also expect that it is desired that we use the unique backgrounds of our members to improve the quality of our work. And that we are able to critically reflect on the work that we have done.

After the first tutor meeting - Week 2

  • What is the most interesting thing you learned in the coaching meeting of the previous week and why?
The most interesting thing we learned was to not be too quick in saying that something is not doable. For example, before the first coaching meeting, we thought that is was not a reasonable expectation to test the product before the end the end of the project, but now we are looking into ways in which we can possibly test our product. We also learned that it is very important to work together with the group and discuss our separate work and findings so that we all know the current state of the project.
  • How did you incorporate coaches' feedback of the previous meeting in your project?
Based on the feedback we received during the previous feedback session we started specifying what we actually want to deliver by the end of the project. We also adapted our literature study slightly to reflect the topic we are actually focussing on.
  • What new activities did you undertake during this week? What did you learn from these activities?
We created a description of system functionality in which we specified what functionalities we want our product to have by the end of the course. This description can be used to create a more detailed planning since it provides an indication of the tasks that need to be done. From writing this description we learned what it is that we actually want to create. We also started on the front-end of the online-learning system we are developing.
  • What did you do to prepare for next week's meeting?
Everyone read/looked at the work that was done by the other group members so that we all know what has been done so far. ???
