First approach: Dense 3D scan
This approach relies on the computation of an estimated distance for most pixels of images.
 
Second approach: sparse3D
This approach relies on the spatial locations of few hundreds of distinct feature points in images.

Environment identification methods described in this article could be explored to determine if it would be viable to use for our drone.
