Hardware

We will start our experiments as soon as possible. We will do these experiments using an Arduino with an audio sensor. The sensor has to be capable of both measuring frequencies and volume levels. For the experiments we chose an Arduino Mega with a SparkFun Sound Detector. To speed up data collection we will use two sets of equipment.

We chose the Arduino Mega because it was readily available from the TU/e. It will be used with an external power supply, as this is recommended for combining it with the sound detector. For data storage and further processing we will hook it up to a laptop.

The sound detector was recommended to us by Ruud van den Bogaert. It is more that suited for our needs, for it has both analog frequency output and volume level or ‘envelope’ output. It also has a digital output that’s high when the volume rises above a certain threshold, which we won’t use.

The sensors have been ordered, they will probably arrive next Wednesday.
