An experimental drinking water purification system that makes use of solar energy to purify the biological contaminants that are present in the drinking water. It created a reactor systems with acrylic tubes coated in nano-Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) in parallel connections. When exposed to sunlight, the contaminated water passing through the photocatalytic activity takes place killing all microorganisms present in the water. This means that with a sand filter, cascaded aeration systems and a charcoal filter, you can create safely drinkable water. It takes around 12 to 15 min in india for water to be free of bacterial colonies if you set up the acrylic tube system correctly and the water has been filtered by the other filters listed above. While this article does not specify the amount of temperature or the amount of solar power that’s used in india, I think it would still be a method worth considering because of the use of solar power.
